Discover Understanding You™ Deep Dive

Why Do We Sometimes Struggle to Understand Ourselves and Others?

Have you ever wondered why you react strongly to certain situations, struggle to communicate what you really mean, or find yourself repeating the same patterns in your relationships?

Perhaps you avoid difficult conversations, overthink decisions, feel misunderstood, or struggle to set healthy boundaries.

These patterns are often connected to how you are naturally wired.

Your behavioral style influences how you communicate, respond to pressure, make decisions, handle conflict, and relate to others.

When you begin to understand your natural strengths, blind spots, and behavioral tendencies, you gain the ability to respond more intentionally rather than simply react.

You don't have to change who you are. You can learn to understand yourself better, appreciate differences in others, and make choices that support healthier relationships and personal growth.

Self-awareness changes the way you live, communicate, and relate to others.

Understanding Behavioral Differences Can Transform Your Relationships

Every person has a unique way of communicating, making decisions, responding to stress, and expressing emotions.

What feels natural to you may be completely different from what feels natural to someone else.

Understanding these differences can change how you connect with the people in your life.

As you develop greater self-awareness and learn to recognize different behavioral styles, you can:

  • Communicate more effectively with people who think differently than you.

  • Navigate disagreements without unnecessary frustration or misunderstanding.

  • Recognize and appreciate the strengths others bring to your relationships.

  • Set healthier boundaries while respecting the needs of others.

  • Build stronger connections with family, friends, colleagues, and the people who matter most.

The goal isn't to make everyone think or behave like you. It's to understand yourself and others so you can build healthier, more meaningful relationships.

Why Understanding People Became My Passion

My fascination with human behavior began long before I knew it had a name.

Growing up in Venezuela as one of seven sisters in a Christian home, I noticed something fascinating: We could experience the same situation and respond in completely different ways.

That curiosity followed me throughout my life.

At 19, I married and moved to the United States to study Nuclear Engineering at the University of Michigan. My husband and I loved each other, but our personalities and priorities were very different. After 15 years, our marriage ended in divorce.

I later experienced a wonderful marriage of more than 21 years before unexpectedly becoming a widow. Through love, loss, and new beginnings, I continued asking:

Why do we connect so naturally with some people while struggling to understand others?

From Engineering to Human Behavior

My career took me from nuclear engineering to corporate leadership, where I became a vice president at 29, and later to building my own international business.

Yet I discovered that understanding people could be more challenging than solving complex technical problems.

When I discovered the DISC model of human behavior more than five years ago, so much of what I had experienced throughout my life finally made sense.

I became a Certified DISC Profile Analyst and Certified Human Behavior Consultant, combining my analytical background, leadership experience, and personal journey to help others understand themselves and the people in their lives.

Self-Awareness Changes Everything.™
